The Levels of Reiki Explained

There are three broad levels of reiki training in all forms of reiki. They are usually labelled Levels 1, reiki and Master. Each of the three levels has unique benefits that make channeling the energy easier and balancing it for better health of mind, body and spirit.

Here are the three levels and what each entails.

Level 1
1st degree: Reiki I or Shoden in Japanese
All the basics are taught at this level, history, self-care techniques, hand positions, treatment outline, various practices for each treatment, and so on.

The word reiki is usually translated as universal life force energy, so you will learn about auras, your energy field. You will also learn about the chakras and meridians, the energy centers of the body, and more.

At Level 1, you will receive an attunement from a reiki master. This helps you tap into your own energy and is therefore the gateway to your own healing path. You will learn the hand positions for healing and the way to structure your healing sessions and a healing calendar for optimal health.

Level 1 will give you all you need to heal yourself, but if you would like to help others, including pets, consider advancing to Level 2.

Level 2
2nd degree: Also called Reiki II or Okuden in Japanese
In level 2, you will learn the healing hand positions for healing people and pets. You will also learn how to use the first three Reiki symbols and how to perform distant reiki techniques, that is, healing people even when they are not in the same room with you. Some people also claim that this form of energy healing can unblock issues from the past, not just the present, and will prevent issues from happening in the future.

Level 3
Mastery: 3rd degree: Also called Reiki III or Shinpiden in Japanese
The third level of Reiki allows a student to reach maximum healing potential and to give attunements. Mastering, as the name suggests, means you are in complete command of the Level 1 and 2 practices and can go even deeper into your studies if you wish. Mastery must be done in conjunction with a teacher of an authentic lineage, that is, studying with a teacher who can trace their line of teachers all the way back to the person who systematized reiki, Mikao Usui of Japan.

If you want to learn reiki, find a master with the correct lineage to receive an attunement from, and open the gateway to your own health and healing.
